Whenever I see things like this, I'm always left scratching my head. Why is it possible? Why would a company full of intelligent people not have a better solution? Why, why, why, why?
Clearly I still don't understand how this whole Internet thing works. If this were something I had built, people using iOS would see something very different: a landing page showing the virtues of Android's "open" system compared to the competition, with a specific focus on the OS used by the website visitor. This wouldn't be too difficult for the technological geniuses employed by Google.
The one item that bugs me the most about this screen is that "Install" button next to the application logo. Why offer something that's impossible? Yes, clicking the button will result in a message saying "No can do", but it wouldn't take too many resources to make this a little clearer. Heck, forwarding people to that "If you had Android..." screen mentioned above would be better than how the site currently works.
Perhaps the Android Market is still in Beta, warts and all?
