Despite having Evernote within an arm's reach at all times, it seems like some of the ideas I'd like to write in the form of a blog post are forgotten about as quickly as they're conjured up. Why is this? I can recall in exquisite detail thousands of tiny gotchas when developing on various platforms. I can recall with crystal clarity almost every episode of Family Guy, Simpsons, and Star Trek. How can something as simple as a blog post vanish into nothingness before its had the opportunity to be written, posted, and then forgotten?
We know1 that we have different types of memory. There's sensory information memory, which consists of all the things we see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. This lasts just fractions of a second. Important information from here is sent to short term memory, where it can be accessed for about 30 seconds or so. Afterwards, if the mind believes the information is important, it is stored for later use in the long-term memory. This is fine for things that we physically experience, but ideas typically do not make use of our five senses. How do we hold on to concepts and memes for any length of time?
Looks like it's time to get some reading material for the coming week ...
